SELECTING A DISTRIBUTOR
Sorry about the delay in posts, but we are now at a key stage in the production of the book.
Having selected our printer (The Aldgate Press), we are now deep in discussion selecting our distributor. This is not proving as easy as we had hoped, as most distributors prefer to handle multiple publications rather than a one-off like our project. They also like to do the whole package, including publishing, printing and design, which would destroy the purposes of our project.
We are also in discussion on how to handle the finances generated by the book, including sales and distribution of the profits to local good causes.
It was agreed that Sarah and Barry would look into distributors, while I will ask around the banks and building societies to find the most suitable account.
There has been a further minor delay when after a meeting with the printers, Sarah and Al were warned that a couple of the photographs needed lightening up, otherwise they will appear too dark on the final print. Sarah has already lightened the images concerned and passed them on to Al so he can adjust the PDF accordingly. So all we now need is for Al to amend the PDF, and send it to the printers for printing.
We are also discussing the book launch, and holding readings. We have discovered that of our first three options, two were much too expensive for us to use, The Museum of Childhood and The London Museum, and now it is looking as though we will be holding the launch at Oxford House. This is currently being finalised. It is also on the cards that readings should take place at Libraries, Idea Stores and Schools in the east-end of London. Sarah is looking into a portable display for these.
The next meeting (this Tuesday, 3rd Feb 2015) is expected to be a busy one. Sarah and Barry will feed back on distribution, Al will feedback on the printing, Mark will feedback on accounts, and we will look further into the Launch and readings.
We are getting there!
